Do you want to work towards being a competent communicator on a proficient level across a broad range of topics in everyday, university and professional settings? Or do you need to lay a basis to either join Cambridge C2 Proficiency: Preparation Workshop or independently prepare for the Cambridge C2 Proficiency certificate?
In this course, various audio-visual materials and texts are used to train sophisticated and nuanced grammar and vocabulary accurately in speaking, listening, reading and writing activities on topical issues.
Some of the themes you will cover include:
• Conditional forms, so that you can conjecture about imaginable and improbable outcomes in the future and past
• Syntax, so that you can adjust word order to craft grammatically accurate sentences that are both elegant and clear
• Conjunctions and linking expressions, so that you can connect sentences and ideas to optimise coherence and flow in a text
• Interrogation and negation, so that you can formulate precise and probing questions and forcefully yet tactfully repudiate claims
• Reported speech, so that you can render the utterances of others appropriately and position yourself in relation to what they say
• Features of formal and spoken English, so that you can calibrate the register of your speech according to the situation and your interlocutors.
The course will cover selected items from units 8 to 18 in MyGrammarLab Advanced C1/C2. It is assumed that participants are already familiar with the materials covered in the first seven units of the book that are covered in the English C1.1 course.
