Preparation: Cambridge CPE Starter

CPE Starter is the first of a two-semester course, followed by CPE Booster. In the first semester participants are introduced to CPE material and exam techniques for the four papers - Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Participants are familiarised with guidelines that facilitate self-study. Prospective participants are advised to contact the Language Center for consultation about suitable intensive courses, offered during the semester break, that will prepare them for this course. Participants who need further practice can also attend English: Speaking and Writing II or English: Speaking and Writing III during the semester.

NB: The Booster course in the next semester might not be on the same day in the same timeslot.

Requirements

Requirements for acquisition of credit points

Starter and Booster course

You can be awarded credit points for this course if you complete the follow-up module (Booster) and pass the requirements for both courses.

In order to receive credit points, candidates will:

  • not be absent more than twice in each of the two modules,
  • submit four satisfactory written assignments with a minimum of 3 on the Cambridge band scale in each of the two modules (if an assignment is unsatisfactory, it may be resubmitted once),
  • pass the internal exam set by the Language Center for the end of the “Booster Course”.

External exams:
For dates and other details on the external examinations, please consult the Cambridge English Language Assessment website as well as the website of the examinations office where you wish to take the exam. In the case of Basel, this is Cambridge English Basel.

Please note:
There must not be more than two semesters between Starter and Booster courses.

± 120 minutes / week

Certificate of attendance

In order to receive a certificate of attendance (available on request) for this course, you are not allowed to be absent more than maximum two times.

Placement test

This course requires either an obligatory computer placement test or completion of a preceding course. If you have not attended a preceding course, a computer placement test has to be taken prior to registration.

Oral placement interviews for all participants will be be held on Monday, 24.09.2018, 17h15-18h00.

Replacement date
