"The combination of sound, vision and language engages and stimulates our senses and cognitive faculties simultaneously, creating a total impact that dwarfs other mediums." (Alan Maley on film in TEFL) Given that it is a medium rich with authentic, visual, culturally diverse and intellectually stimulating material, film is an ideal vehicle for language learning.
In this course, we will view and discuss recent short films ('shorts') that range from the humorous to the dramatic, to the experimental, to the inspiring, to the provocative. Our analysis of the films will provide the basis for extensive practice in speaking, listening and reading, with a focus on conversational skills. We will also work on expanding learners' vocabulary.
This class is designed for students and staff at the B2 level who would like a comprehensive English language training in a relaxed and stimulating setting.
