Writing Consultation English - 25.04.2024 ONLINE

Writing consultations offer you the opportunity to receive advice and corrections on a text while you are writing it.

You can bring any text you would like help with to an individual, online consultation session. The consultant will answer your questions and address any aspects of your text that you want help with, including:

  • grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • apt expressions (vocabulary and collocations)
  • lucid style
  • logical linking of sentences
  • overall structure of paragraphs and sections
  • format conventions
  • citation styles

This offering is intended for anyone who is writing something in English, regardless of whether English is their first or second language. All students including PhD-candidates of the University of Basel are welcome to participate, and you can bring along any genre of text, including:

  • seminar papers and presentations
  • theses and dissertations
  • curricula vitae and applications
  • formal letters
  • minutes and regulations
  • research presentations and slides
  • research papers and books
  • research proposals and calls for papers.

The writing consultant is qualified to offer competent advice on a wide range of genres from fields and disciplines spanning the university.

You book a individual session of 60 minutes. This takes place virtually. After registration you will receive a zoom link. Have your text ready for the session. During the session, you will continue to work on it, the writing consultant can get involved individually, help you with specific linguistic and stylistic problems, and give feedback on questions of argumentation and/or text structure.
