Deutsch als Fremdsprache: A1.2 intensiv

You have taken a liking to the German language and would like to continue your journey of discovery? With this course you can build on your basic knowledge. The grammar taught in class will gradually become more complex, and your thematic vocabulary increasingly richer. Not only will you expand your own means of expression, but you will also understand your German-speaking conversation partners better. For example, you will learn how to:

  • talk about your everyday working life;
  • have simple conversations about your health at a doctor’s visit;
  • talk about different types of housing and your own living situation;
  • engage in more demanding shopping conversations, such as in a clothing store;
  • understand and hold phone conversations in German.

Using role plays, you will train how to communicate appropriately in different linguistic situations in your academic, professional, and personal life. Last but not least, you will also learn how to talk about things in the past. Important grammar topics in this course will include conjunctions, modal verbs, prepositions, perfect forms, and pronouns.

With lessons rich in variety, we will help you develop all your language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) equally. This will make you feel more confident to speak as much German as possible in your everyday life in Basel, whether at home, at the university, or at work.

German, the target language, will be the language of instruction; the academic lingua franca of English will only be used occasionally as an auxiliary language.

The total break time will be 30 minutes per session.
