English: Academic Writing Workshop - Advanced

This intensive Writing Workshop is ideally combined with the Conversation, Discussion and Presentation - Advanced training as well as the Grammar and Vocabulary - Advanced course.

In this workshop participants develop and train formal writing for academic settings and familiarize themselves with the features of English academic style in different disciplines. The focus will be on degrees of formality in written texts, exactitude of expression, syntax, the structures of different text types, and coherence and cohesion within texts. Participants are encouraged to work on their own writing assignments that they will use in their academic courses elsewhere in the University.

Possible texts and tasks might include:

  • Abstracts and summaries
  • Description and analyses of visual, verbal, and numerical data
  • Introductions, discussions, and conclusions
  • Making academic writing readable.

There will be no classes on 5 and 6 September 2018.
